Our internship program tasks students with conceiving and carrying out a project of their design. While the topic could be anything, students are responsible for assembling a team, planning out the project, and executing. Foundry10 provides mentors, but they are there to supply guidance and are quite hands-off in their approach.
We began offering this program because we wanted to see what would happen if we asked students: if you could do any project you wanted, what would you do? Then we wanted to see what would happen if they actually did it. See the report below for a bit more about the program itself, the critical pieces of its design, and what we have learned from it so far.
